Koh Samui’s sister island Koh Phangan, famous for its full moon parties, is building its own airport to service visitors traveling from Bangkok to Koh Phangan. Flights between Bangkok and Koh Phangan will be operating from Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport, where most domestic flights depart from.
Constructions have already began and plans to complete and open Koh Phangan’s airport are set for the second half of 2013. The local Bangkok based Airline Kan Air, currently operating flights between Chiang Mai, Pai, Mae Hong Son, Phitsanulok and Khon Kaen, will extend its flight schedule with the new route Bangkok – Koh Phangan – Bangkok.
Therefor the airline will lease 2 ATR-42 turboprops to service clients on the new route. Estimated flight time between Koh Phangan and Bangkok are set to 80min. Further expansions planned for 2013 are the routes between Don Muang and Phitsanulok, as well as between Don Muang and Khon Kaen.
