Chaweng Beach Samui – East Coast
Chaweng Beach located on the east coast is Koh Samui’s longest beach. The popular beach of Chaweng consists of 3 sections. north Chaweng, central Chaweng and Chaweng Noi. Chaweng Noi is a separated beach in the southern part.
All 3 sections offer fine, white sanded bays with gently sloping beaches. The beaches at Chaweng area are perfect for visitors to enjoy swimming.
North Chaweng Beach is mostly protected against high waves and strong currents by the offshore reef. The reef is located close to the beach which makes swimming safe even in the months of monsoon season. During monsoon season Chaweng faces strong easterly wind and wave directions. The reef offers one of the few snorkeling areas of the eastern beaches. It also connects to the small island of Koh Matlang.
Central Chaweng is more crowded than north and south Chaweng. Vendors selling ice-cream, drinks, Thai food, BBQ, drinks and souvenirs. They are walking along the beach offering their goods to sunbathing holiday makers. Parallel to the beach, Chaweng Beach Road is full of restaurants, shops, opticians, massage therapists, tailors, bars and clubs. This area offers undoubtedly the most shopping opportunities on Koh Samui. In the middle of Chaweng there is a brand new shopping Center “Central Festival” with many shops and restaurants.
Chaweng Noi is located south of Chaweng beach. Separated by boulders from the crowded Central Chaweng area. It is quieter and more idyllic than the north, but offers the same fine, powdery white sand. Chaweng Noi is popular with honeymooners, families, couples and travelers who like it a little more relaxed.
